Jim Mitchell reports on our multi-well leak detection campaign in Malaysia

Do you remember our photos showing just how small the FLI footprint is, with kit ready to be shipped out for a multi-well campaign in Malaysia? Despite Covid travel restrictions, the project proved a great success, with our onsite operations managed by Jim Mitchell. Here’s Jim’s account of his experience:

“I consider myself a seasoned international operations engineer, but Covid-19 made this trip particularly challenging. I spent 37 days in quarantine for a five-day operation, must have taken a dozen coronavirus tests and was even turned back from an internal regional flight as restrictions tightened. I finally made it, with support from our local service partner, my colleagues in Aberdeen and the operator, and to have such a successful campaign made it all worthwhile.

"The aim was to detect small annular leaks through tubing, which is challenging for any technology, but when the data acquisition was underway I could tell that it was good quality. Well-SENSE and the operator were monitoring activity live, via a remote link, so it was a real-time, team collaboration. There was a lot of interest in this operation as it was our first big project in Malaysia so I’m looking forward to going back soon but hopefully with a lot less time in quarantine!”
